JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police are expected to meet with the mother of an eight-month-old baby boy who was abused at a Diepsloot Crèche, allegedly by his caretaker.
This week, Eyewitness News revealed how the 68-year-old woman was captured on camera shaking the child and trying to muffle his cries.
Police arrested her but the case was withdrawn due to a lack of evidence.
Police are hoping to bring fresh charges against the woman, whose actions were filmed.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo says they’re also speaking to other eyewitnesses.
“If there are people who’ve witnessed some form of abuse, they must please come to the police so that we can investigate.”
Social Development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza says the incident is deeply disturbing.
The police have vowed to track down illegal daycare crèches in the area.
