CAPE TOWN - A man reportedly linked to a Western Cape abalone poaching syndicate has been killed in a shooting.

Police have confirmed Russell Jacobs was hospitalised on Friday night following a shooting in Blue Downs but died on Saturday morning.

Jacobs had at least two cases before courts in the province for racketeering, money laundering and possession of abalone.

The police’s Andre Traut says the motive for the killing is unclear.

“He was admitted to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and the circumstance surrounding the shooting are being investigated.”

A second man was apparently injured but police are yet to catch the gunmen.
