Africa falling off WEF agenda - Pityana
AngloGold Ashanti chairperson Sipho Pityana says there is clearly a lack of diversity about some of the conversations that took place at #WEF2017.
DAVOS - AngloGold Ashanti chairperson and Save South Africa convener Sipho Pityana says he’s been struck by how few black people have been at the World Economic Forum meeting and about how Africa is falling off the agenda.
Pityana says there is clearly a lack of diversity about some of the conversations that took place there this week.
He says he’s been taken aback by how few people from Africa have been a part of the discussions this year.
“Not only is there hardly a conversation around bringing the participation of blacks in those kind of conversations but there is sometimes just a conversation about the world and no reference to Africa at all.”

And he says it's important to actually get Africa back on the agenda.
“It’s not how Africans are looking to get that agenda back there. We are a Cinderella in this project.”
Pityana also says that South Africa used to help lead the African diaspora but that that role appears to have faded.
