Ailing Joost van der Westhuizen on oxygen machine
The former rugby player has been struggling with motor neuron disease since 2011.
CAPE TOWN - Former Springbok scrumhalf Joost Van der Westhuizen (45) is understood to be using an oxygen machine.
Van der Westhuizen has been struggling since 2011 when he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease, a form of motor neuron disease.
His condition has deteriorated over the years and medical costs have continued to soar.
He is now confined to a wheelchair.
The iconic Springbok played 89 Tests scoring at the time a Springbok record 38 tries before being surpassed by Bryan Habana.
