JOHANNESBURG - The community of Lenasia has called on all South Africans to pray for the safe return of missing journalist Shiraaz Mohamed.

Mohamed has been abducted in Syria while visiting the region with relief organisation Gift of the Givers.

A night vigil was held in the community, south of Johannesburg, on Wednesday.

Community members, friends and colleagues of Mohamed have called for his release and safe return home.

Family friend Pravin Pragraj, says, “And if all South Africans band together, we can stop a lot of these things. Peace is our ultimate goal in the world.”

Pragraj says the family remains hopeful.

“We have hope in the sense that he is still living and he is still alive, but we cannot ever dismiss that.”

Close friends of the local photo journalist say Mohamed has always been passionate about his job and telling stories through the lens of his camera.
