CAPE TOWN – When should you be sceptical of a medical certificate or sick note that doesn’t seem to add up and what constitutes a 'valid' medical certificate?

Labour lawyer Bradley Conradie was interviewed by Cape Talk’s John Maytham about the abuse of sick notes in the work place, and when an employee is required to disclose their illness.

Conradie says employers need to have a plan in place in which they manage employees whilst identifying those who are problematic.

He also details regulations according to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act.
