Fire season: Stilbaai blaze 'finally' under control
Veld fires across the Peninsula, Paarl, Stilbaai & Tulbagh are but a few that have wreaked havoc in recent weeks.
CAPE TOWN - After several days of hard work, fire crews have finally managed to contain part of a blaze raging in the Stilbaai area.
The fire broke out on Sunday.
The head of Western Cape Disaster Management and Fire Services' Colin Deiner says things are finally looking up.
“The fire in Stilbaai was contained south of the N2 overnight. The conditions are better today for firefighting and winds are not as strong.”

The Western Cape Environmental Affairs Department says the causes of numerous wildfires that have ravaged parts of the province have yet to be established. The department claims children could responsible for some of the blazes.

The department's James-Brent Styan has reiterated the hot, dry and windy weather makes for perfect fire conditions.
“This is why we caution the public about conditions out there. Please be aware and safe. Don’t start any fires outside.”
