JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have confirmed a second officer has been killed in the province in just one week.

An officer was shot dead during a business robbery in Katlehong last week.

The man later died in hospital.

In a separate incident over the weekend, an off-duty officer was shot dead at his house in Eldorado Park.

The police's Kay Makhubele says, “We had an incident where two police officers were killed in one week, in Elderado Park as well as in Katlehong. We are still searching for those suspects.”

Police management has said they are deeply concerned about the number of police killings that have taken place this year with at least four officers killed already.

Police commissioners in the affected provinces have called on the public to assist in finding those involved in the recent spate of murders.

Last year, Police Minister Nathi Nhleko set up the National Tactical Response Plan, aimed at conducting on-site investigations to assess the circumstances of all officers who have been killed.

The police's Mathapelo Peters says losing just one officer affects policing.

In the Northern Cape police have managed to arrest a suspect for the murder of an off-duty officer.

Meanwhile Eastern Cape police have launched a manhunt after a suspect shot and killed a warrant officer in the Libode area.
