CAPE TOWN – The Hawks believe the murder of one of their own in the Eastern Cape is a hit linked to an ongoing investigation.

Warrant officer Dalibandla Qokoyi was gunned down in Mthatha on Wednesday night.

A task team has been set up to investigate his murder.

Qokoyi was killed a day before he was to testify in a bail application of six men accused of a series of cash van robberies in Mthatha and East London.

Although the investigation is still ongoing there’s suspicion the murder could be related to the case.

Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi says they are trying to establish the number of people involved.

“We need to find out who these people are and we had a 90% success rate when it comes to these kind of cases. So an investigation is already being formulated as the Hawks and the police.”

That task team hit the ground running on Thursday and is following up on leads around the Mthatha and Libode areas.
