Bafana grouped with Nigeria for Afcon 2019 qualifiers
This is the second time in three qualifying campaigns that Bafana Bafana are in a group with Nigeria.
JOHANNESBURG - The Confederation of African Football announced the groups, fixtures and fixture dates for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday and South Africa finds itself in Group E with Nigeria, the Seychelles and Libya.
This is the second time in three qualifying campaigns that Bafana Bafana are in a group with Nigeria and in that last campaign, they denied the Super Eagles a spot in the 2015 Afcon.
The qualifiers will get underway from 5 June 2017 and conclude on 13 November 2018 and Bafana will begin their quest away to Nigeria and wrap it with an away clash against Libya.
It’s yet to be seen if the national team will have a new coach when they start their qualifiers, as Shakes Mashaba has taken the South African Football Association to the CCMA for what he believes was an unfair dismissal.
Mashaba was sacked in December, after being found guilty of gross misconduct, following his public outburst on national television in November, when his team beat Senegal 2-1 in a World Cup qualifier.
