Firefighters work throughout the night to extinguish Paarl fire

CAPE TOWN – Firefighters have been working through the night trying to bring a runaway fire in Paarl under control.

The blaze has ravaged 650 hectares of farmland and destroyed 10 structures.

Around 200 people were forced to flee their homes.

Families who were forced to flee their homes are camped out in a modest farm school hall until officials give them the all clear to return.

For one Paarl family however, the shelter at the temporary relief centre is their only refuge.

The fire has swept across the Paarl Valley, gutting at least 10 structures.

It’s not yet been determined what sparked the blaze.
