Residents evacuated as firefighters battle Ocean View blaze
The fire which has spread towards Simons Town, has forced residents living in the military flats to be evacuated for safety reasons.
CAPE TOWN – A blaze that broke out on the mountain slopes in Ocean View earlier today, is now moving in the direction of Da Gama Park towards Simon's Town.
Residents living in the military flats have been evacuated for safety reasons.
Firefighters are currently on scene battling the flames.

South African National Parks has warned residents to avoid trails between Ocean View and the top of Red Hill.

The City of Cape Town's Fire and Rescue Services' Liesl Moodie says: “The property is currently being protected in the Da Gama Park area. City firefighters are being assisted by ground crews from Table Mountain National Parks, Volunteer Wildfire and Biodiversity. There are also two helicopters in operation, water bombing.”
Meanwhile fire crews are still on scene in the Helderberg attending to fire hotspots and flare ups in Somerset West.
Moodie explains: “The city’s fire and rescue services are still in attendance with other role players in Somerset West where ground crews and helicopters are still in operation damping down, attending to hot spots and flare ups as they occur ensuring safety. Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the day.”
