Roosevelt Park protest against power outages
Protest leader Nicholas Lorimer says the municipality has failed to maintain infrastructure which have been operating for decades.
JOHANNESBURG – Dozens of angry residents have gathered at the Roosevelt Park substation to voice their frustration over the power outage in the area which has left them in the dark for almost two days.
City Power says several power outages were caused by the heavy rains across the province where some suburbs have been without electricity since Friday.
The utility's Yumna Sheik says areas including Northcliff, Roosevelt Park and Victory Park have been affected.
Protest leader Nicholas Lorimer says the Johannesburg municipality has failed to maintain and refurbish infrastructure which have been operating for decades.
Lorimer says they have now been told by authorities that they will have power back- at least by tonight.
“A lot of infrastructure has not been replaced and now it’s all coming home to roost, this substation fails a lot.”
