CAPE TOWN – Firefighting efforts have entered a fourth day as a blaze in the Helderberg basin continue.

Crews worked throughout the night to suppress two areas where active flames were burning in Lourensford.

The fire yesterday threatened to burn the historic Lourensford Wine Estate.

The Helderberg blaze has destroyed up to seven structures already, including the four star Bezweni Lodge.

Working on Fire’s Lauren Howard says, “An active fire line is still burning high up the mountain areas in Lourensford. Teams were deployed early this morning to contain the fire line. Approximately 3,500 hectares of veld has burnt thus far.”
