CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Education MEC Debbie Schafer says she’s not only pleased with the high pass rate but also with the high percentage of learners who have completed their schooling.

This year the province has managed to retain 64% of learners from grade 10 to matric, the highest in the country.

There has been an increase of 1.3% in the pass rate compared to 2015.

While the Free State is the top province with the highest pass rate of 93%, its retention rate is 47%.

Schafer has congratulated all the matriculants who were successful: “My advice to those who were successful is celebrate your achievement, you’ve worked hard and you deserve it. Use your achievement to do the very best you can in your life and use the opportunity to better our country.”
