Police raids in Nyanga net almost 500 suspects

CAPE TOWN – Almost five hundred people have been arrested over the past few days in the Nyanga area in Cape Town for various crimes.

Many of the suspects face drug-related charges.

More than 460 suspects have been arrested in Nyanga and neighbouring areas since last Tuesday.

The arrests are part of an intensified festive season anti-crime blitz, which included raids on suspected drug dens and illegal liquor outlets.

Some arrests also took place at roadblocks.

One hundred and forty-two suspects have been taken into custody for drug-related offences. Others were nabbed for serious crimes like murder and hijacking.

Most of the suspects are expected to appear in various courts on Tuesday.
