8 killed on WC roads over New Year's long weekend

CAPE TOWN - Western Cape roads have claimed at least 8 lives so far over the New Year's weekend.

In the latest incident, two people died in a crash near De Doorns along the N1.

Several farm workers were also injured when the truck they were travelling in collided with oncoming traffic.

Provincial traffic chief Kenny Africa says that the cause of the crash in under investigation.

"A truck and a [VW] Golf motor vehicle collided head-on opposite the Gerda farm. In this case, the two occupants of the Golf were killed and nine of the farmworkers travelling on the truck were slightly injured."
