JOHANNESBURG – The South African Police Service says there is no truth to malicious reports stating that police stations and hospitals will be closed on Christmas day and New Year’s Eve.

The hoax report that’s been circulating goes as far as quoting the acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Khomotso Phahlane confirming the closure of the two services.

Police spokesperson Sally de Beer says police have intensified their efforts to ensure South Africans are safe on Christmas and New Year’s Eve and the rest of the festive season.

“Lieutenant-General Phahlane has directed that the police place it on record that we distance ourselves from such reports as we find this type of misguided humour tasteless and misleading.”
