Gauteng top cop urges officers to be proactive with mall security
Gauteng police commissioner Deliwe de Lange says 2,000 additional police trainees have also been deployed.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police commissioner Deliwe de Lange says officers have been urged to take a proactive approach at shopping centres, on the roads and in public areas over the festive season to ensure crime remains low.
She says this is due to increased police visibility and because they have been working closely with the metros, traffic department and private security companies.
She says 2,000 additional police trainees have also been deployed.
“We shared all the best practices and the way forward to say what is it that we can do to prevent crime in our malls, that is the multi-disciplinary operations that we had with other law agencies.”
