SABC: Zuma awaits inquiry outcome before appointing interim board
This week President Jacob Zuma confirmed the resignation of SABC board chairperson Professor Mbulaheni Maguvhe.
JOHANNESBURG – The Presidency says President Jacob Zuma will wait for the outcome of the parliamentary inquiry into the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) before making any decision on the appointment of an interim board.
This week, Zuma confirmed the resignation of board chairperson Mbulaheni Maguvhe who had been the public broadcaster’s last remaining non-executive board member, after a string of resignations.
Maguvhe faced tough questions from the parliamentary ad-hoc committee last week - following his failed court bid to block its work.
The Presidency’s Bongani Ngqulunga says: “The law says the president has to appoint three executive directors and five members who have been recommended by the National Assembly. Once the National Assembly makes its recommendation, he has to make appointments within 10 days of receiving those recommendations.”
