JOHANNESBURG - The South African Weather Service is warning Gauteng residents to brace for a heatwave with the mercury in the province expected to hit 36 °C.

It says some parts of the Northern Cape, Free-State and North West will also be affected due to the high pressure system in the northern and central parts of the country.

Forecaster Wayne Venter says temperatures in the Northern Cape will likely breach 40 °C.

“We expect those provinces to have a heatwave until at least Thursday this week. We expect temperatures to be very high with temperatures in the mid to high 30s. Some places may even reach 40°C in the northern part of the Northern Cape and North West province.”
