JOHANNESBURG - The Transport Department says technicians are working to restore railway lines in Bloemfontein which has delayed four trains leaving the city.

The trains destined for Queenstown, East London, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg have been behind schedule since last night.

It’s understood the disruptions were caused by a train which derailed just outside Bloemfontein.

The department's Ishmael Mnisi says alternative transport is now being arranged for travellers.

“To ensure the safety and comfort of passengers, the Port Elizabeth train is already en route through Kimberly. Buses have been arranged for the Johannesburg train. The minister thanks Prasa and Transnet for their quick response in dealing with this.”
