JOHANNESBURG – As South Africans start to make their way to their festive season holiday destinations, Transport Minister Dipuo Peters says any drop in the number of road fatalities will depend on the attitude of drivers to the rules of the roads.

Peters was speaking at the launch of one of many road safety campaigns ahead of the annual festive season road rush.

She says she is stunned by the condition of some vehicles on the roads and has promised that drivers who disregard the law will be detained and prosecuted.

“If everybody obeys and complies and adheres to the rules, we’ll see the reduction. We also want our people to have the right attitude about safety.”
