Holidaymakers urged to take precaution when swimming
The NSRI has urged people travelling to the coast for the December holidays to keep safety top of mind.
CAPE TOWN – Amid a search for two men swept out to see in Richard’s Bay, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has urged people travelling to the coast for the December holidays to keep safety top of mind.
The men disappeared on Wednesday after going into the sea to try and retrieve a lost football.
The Rescue Service's Craig Lambinon says, “Make sure that the children have a responsible adult around them, whether on inland waters or coastal waters, even your swimming pool at home.
“We urge all people to take a safety caution mindset with them when they're going to be playing around water.”
He has urged beach goers to be extra cautious during the current springtide.
“We’re now in a full moon spring tide, meaning we’ve now got a higher than normal tide. Much stronger than the normal rip currency and this will last until at least 19 December.”
