CAPE TOWN – Firefighters are still working to contain a series of fires in several Southern Cape towns.

The biggest, in the Craggs near Plettenberg Bay, has been burning for two weeks.

SANParks teams, the Bitou municipality, Working on Fire volunteers and local firefighting organisations have been trying to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby forest.

Garden Route National Park planning manager Len du Plessis says he hopes a back-burn plan will prevent the fire from spreading.

“The fire is contained for now, but it’s still burning within a contained area.”
