Water Dept implements countrywide water restrictions
The restrictions are being implemented in most parts of the country in a bid to curb water usage amid SA's drought in more than a century.
JOHANNESBURG - The Water and Sanitation Department says national water restrictions are being put into place from Thursday.
The restrictions are being implemented in most parts of the country in a bid to curb water usage as the country continues to grapple with the worst drought in more than a century.
In Gauteng water levels in the Vaal River have dropped to record lows.
The department has urged consumers to use water sparingly especially now during the festive season.
Spokesperson Sputnik Ratau said: “If we can be able to reduce the amount of water we use, if we’re able to recycle and reuse so that we have less potable water being utilised for the most part, that is the idea behind what we are driving.”
