CAPE TOWN - Professor Simphiwe Sesanti delves into the African culture by explaining Ulwaluko, traditional circumcision and initiation into manhood.
The professor has defended the tradition, which has been labelled as “stupid” because of the number of lives that have been lost while undergoing the initiation process.
He says the purpose of initiation is to build character, which is important in the African culture.
Sesanti is an associate professor at Unisa's Institute for African Renaissance Studies.
