CAPE TOWN - The chairperson of an ad hoc parliamentary committee, probing the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) board, says it is taking the public broadcaster's absence from the hearings in its stride.

The committee is leading an inquiry into the board's fitness to hold office.

SABC board chair Mbulaheni Maghuve, who is partially blind, is refusing to participate after walking out of the committee because documents were not available in braille.

Meanwhile, following evidence by yesterday's witnesses, the committee has unanimously decided to also call former SABC chairpersons Ben Ngubane and Ellen Tshabalala to testify.
