CAPE TOWN - At least five suspects have been arrested during police raids in Manenberg.

Operation Lockdown saw officers saturate the gang infested area on Monday as part of a broader festive season safety and security plan.

More than 50 heavily armed police officers flooded the streets of Manenberg, as Operation Lockdown was launched in the suburb.

During three of the raids, five people were arrested, while a plastic bag filled with cash and dagga was confiscated.

But some residents were unhappy with the operation. They claim police didn’t have the necessary documentation to search their homes and officers were too heavy-handed.

Meanwhile, authorities say raids will continue on a daily basis throughout the festive season.
