10 arrested in Sophiatown drug bust
R80,000 worth of mandrax and rock was confiscated when police raided a flat in Waterval.
JOHANNESBURG - Ten people have been arrested in a drug bust in Sophiatown in Johannesburg, where R80,000 worth of mandrax and rock was confiscated .
Police raided a flat in Waterval after a receiving a tip off from community members.
A box containing R21,000 was also discovered in the flat.
The suspects, aged between 26 and 50, were arrested on the scene and will appear in the Newlands Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The police's Julia Claassen says it is unclear whether there are more suspects involved in the syndicate.
βWe are investigating. This area is known for drugs and gangsterism so the police are looking into that. Ten suspects will appear in the Newlands Magistrates Court for dealing in drugs.β
