CAPE TOWN - The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has warned beachgoers to be extra vigilant this summer.

Over the weekend, a man drowned when he was caught in a rip current in the Witsand area.

A 17-year-old boy is also missing after he disappeared under the water while swimming in Wilderness.

The NSRI’s Craig Lambinon explains.

“We are urging the public to be extremely cautious around the coast now that we are in the summer season. There are more people down at our beaches and we urge people to go to beaches with a safety mindset, go to beaches where lifeguards are and obey their instructions.”
