Nine due in court as authorities crackdown on crime in CT
Four suspects, who are expected to appear in court, were caught after a high-speed chase with the city's law enforcement unit.
CAPE TOWN – Nine people are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court today for various incidents relating to the illegal possession of firearms.
Four suspects were arrested following a high-speed chase in Athlone on Friday night, which led to a shoot-out with officials.
Three suspects were arrested in Nyanga after police searched their spaza shop and two others were apprehended in Athlone.
The City of Cape Town Traffic Service's Maxine Jordaan says, "The suspects have been charged with attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, position of an imitation firearm, reckless or negligent driving and resisting arrest."
The three suspects from Nyanga are facing charges of the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Two men are also appearing in court on similar charges after officers found a pistol, ammunition, dagga and mandrax in an Athlone wendy house.
