JOHANNESBURG – Transport Minister Dipuo Peters says hospitals do not have the capacity to deal with all the injuries suffered on the roads during the festive season

Peters and Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane yesterday launched the 2016 Road Safety Campaign in Gauteng hosting various events and conducting road blocks.

She says Gauteng has the highest number of people traveling at this time of the year and half of the road fatalities being pedestrians.

Peters has urged people to drive responsibly, adding that she hopes for a mass reduction in the number of road injuries and fatalities.

“We don’t have the capacity in the hospitals to accommodate the number of people who get injured. They crowd out other sick people, they crowd out other people who need the services.”
