JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police are investigating a case of kidnapping after a woman posing as a South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) official abducted a four-month-old baby from his mother.

It’s understood the woman had promised to give baby clothes to needy mothers as a gift for Christmas at the Carlton Centre in Johannesburg's CBD.

She then disappeared with the infant.

The police’s Xoli Mbele says officers are now searching for the kidnapper.

“We are appealing to the public that if they saw a female that was never pregnant but is now carrying a child, they must inform their nearest police station.”
