The 20-year-old was apparently arrested for theft & detained alone in holding cells at the Laingsburg police station.
CAPE TOWN - No arrests have yet been made in connection with the rape of a 20-year-old woman, allegedly while she was in police custody in Laingsburg.
However, authorities say an identity parade will be held soon to identify the suspect.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) says the 20-year-old woman was apparently arrested for theft and detained alone in holding cells at the Laingsburg police station.
A police officer then allegedly entered the cell and attacked her.
The directorate's Moses Dlamini says the official then allegedly grabbed his firearm, which had fallen to the ground, pointed it at the woman and threatened to shoot her.
The woman was then raped.
It's believed the incident took place last Friday night.
