CAPE TOWN - A Somerset West wine estate has been awarded an international accolade for being the best wine tourism destination.

This is the 5th time the historic Vergelegen Wine Estate has been given the international award.

There were almost 400 entries from eight of the world’s most renowned wine regions.

The estate’s Don Tooth says while he isn't fixated on winning, the award confirms they are doing something right on the estate.

“It’s a great recognition in terms of South Africa and what wine tourism means for the country as a whole. The actual award as a recognition is known as the Great Wine Capital’s Best of Wine Tourism, an international award.”
