The Johannesburg mayor says he has already engaged a number of embassies to discuss the issue.
JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba says time is running out for illegal immigrants in the city centre and he has already engaged a number of embassies to discuss the issue.
Mashaba is marking 100 days in office.

He says not all his plans have been achieved yet and may not be achieved in this financial year, because he inherited a budget that was approved two months before he took over from the previous African National Congress led administration.
Mashaba says illegal activity, particularly in the inner city, is hindering the area's development.
“They’re holding our country to ransom and I’m going to be the last South African to allow it. I’ve got constrains as local government, because the national government has opened our borders to criminality.”
He says the inner city has been taken over by criminals.
“Every embassy that I’ve engaged with and shared with my plans, everybody agrees.”
Mashaba says those living in the city illegally and involved in criminal activity will be targeted.
