Operations disrupted at Gauteng’s Cogta due to Red Ants raid
The Red Ants raided the department on Tuesday, seizing computers and furniture due to non-payment.
JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Department of Cooperative Governance, Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements says work at its offices will be disrupted for a while due to Tuesday's raid.
Red Ants raided the department, seizing computers and furniture due to non-payment.
Department spokesperson Keith Khoza says the department had to hire a security company to secure RDP houses that were being vandalised at the time, but had not budgeted for it.
He says the department tried to reach a compromise with the company, but surprisingly the Red Ants arrived with trucks to take furniture and equipment.
“Certainly it will be disrupting our work because not only do they take furniture, they take computers. Now the entire staff component is not going to be able to do their work.”
Khoza says their department is talking to Treasury to find a solution.
