JHB taxi driver shoots passenger dead

Police say the suspect handed himself over on Wednesday after he shot the passenger once in the upper body and then fled.

JOHANNESBURG – A taxi driver has been arrested after he allegedly shot and killed a passenger during an argument in the Johannesburg CBD.

It’s understood the shooting happened on Tuesday, however, the 35-year-old suspect handed himself over to police earlier on Wednesday.

Police say the suspect shot the passenger once in the upper body and then fled.

The victim was declared dead on the scene.

The police’s Xoli Mbele says the taxi driver will appear in court on Thursday.

“The victim had an argument with the taxi driver and went out of the taxi. The taxi driver followed him and shot him in his upper body with a licensed firearm.”
