JOHANNESBURG - Save South Africa convener Sipho Pityana says the continued tenure of President Jacob Zuma will not only hurt the African National Congress (ANC) , but also puts the entire country at risk.

The ruling party announced on Sunday that its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting would be extended to Monday, as they discuss Zuma’s fate.

Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom tabled a motion of no confidence against Zuma.

The move is said to have sent some Zuma loyalists into panic.

Pityana says Zuma stepping down would be in the best interest of the country.

“There is a greater risk to the country that comes with the continued presidency of Jacob Zuma that could hurt the ANC as well.”
