JOHANNESBURG - Corruption Watch says it’s received over 300 reports from foreign nationals about extortion, threats and dodgy dealings involving government officials.
It says of the reports received 80% involve refugee reception offices, Home Affairs officials, security guards, administrators as well as interpreters.
Seventeen percent of the cases implicate metro police and the South African Police Service.
The watchdog's David Lewis says: “A report corruption by asylum seekers was made to us. We identified the Department of Home Affairs as a major corrupt area in South Africa.”
