CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town has commenced its festive crack down on illegal activities in the metro.

Nearly 200 suspects have been nabbed in the past week for various offences including drunk driving.

The city's JP Smith has warned motorists that the amount of roadblocks is set to 'quadruple' over the coming weeks.

He adds that authorities will further intensify their efforts to curb gun violence.

“One of them happened this morning when our metro police canine unit arrested two suspects in the act of discharging a firearm in Red River road in Manenberg. They turned into the road and just as one of the suspects opened fire they chased them and then managed to arrest the 17 and 24-year-old.”
