JOHANNESBURG – Limpopo police have confirmed that two of the three prisoners who escaped a holding cell in the Tzaneen area have died.
Last week, three men escaped from the Phalaborwa police station after they were charged with rape.
Police received a tip off that the men were in hiding at a Tzaneen hostel.
When authorities arrived at the hostel, one of the men was killed during a shootout and another was found dead a short distance from the scene.
The polices Moatshe Ngoepe says: “The second one was later found killed a way from the crime scene with multiple assault wounds throughout his body. It seems he was assaulted by an unknown group of people. These are two separate incidents and are being investigated. The one who is still on the run is Benny Mathaba, who is 24-years-old.”
