CAPE TOWN - The wreckage of a missing aircraft that a South African woman was travelling in has been found in Nepal.

Petro Nel was one of two people on board the aircraft when it lost contact with air traffic control over the Himalayas last year.

Nel was also the Democratic Alliance North West deputy leader.

The party's Chris Hattingh says the wreckage will be tested.

“About five weeks ago we received photographs of what could have been the wreckage of this aircraft. The police in Nepal went to the site yesterday and [found] the wreckage that had burned out. They found some human remains which they’ve taken for forensic investigation.”
