Max Price urges universities to find funding alternatives
The UCT vice chancellor was speaking at a dialogue session hosted by the Foundation for Human Rights yesterday.
CAPE TOWN - University of Cape Town (UCT) vice-chancellor Dr Max Price says universities must find alternatives to government funding.
Price was speaking at a dialogue session hosted by the Foundation for Human Rights yesterday.
Price says universities can establish their own funding initiatives to aid financially needy students.
“A university system can promote that re-distributive process by charging high fees for those who can afford it, and using that money to improve the financial aid system for those who can’t afford it or just to improve the quality of education for everyone.”
But not all students at the discussion are satisfied with Price's ideas, with one student saying “all institutions are going to burn down”.
Price adds universities can play a bigger role in promoting greater equality among students.
