MOROCCO – Climate change activists at the Conference of Parties (COP) 22 Summit in Marrakesh are picking themselves up after the shock United States (US) presidential win by Donald Trump, the man who’s threatened to destroy years of their work by scrapping the Paris Agreement on global warming.

They are saying the US is not the only party to this deal, they must press on with implementing the international commitment to limit global warming by two degrees centigrade above pre-industrial levels.

Press officers and the civil society’s spokespeople have had to rewrite their briefing notes for the more than 20,000 delegates to COP 22, as have the spokespeople to the 190 participating nations.

They say they must press ahead as they can’t wait for one man, assuming a position where he can make good on his threat to junk 20 years of progress on climate change.
