JOHANNESBURG - An 18-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping an 18 month old baby in Protea South in Soweto.

Authorities say the teenager, who's known to the mother, was minding the baby when she disappeared with the infant on Thursday.

She was located by the child's mother in Doornkop yesterday and is expected to appear in court soon on charges relating to child abduction.

The police's John Serala says the community helped with the arrest.

“The mother was at Doornkop where she resides. When she was at home she saw the suspect while carrying the baby. She went outside the house and chased the suspect. With the help of the community members, they managed to apprehend the suspect.”
