Insults fly between Gauteng MEC, EFF MPL in legislature

JOHANNESBURG - Proceedings have been adjourned at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, after security was called in to remove an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member, however the six guards were met with resistance from other EFF members of provincial legislature (MPLs).
MECs have been answering questions from opposition parties today.
It all started when MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza told EFF MPLs to “shut up”, as she stood up to answer a question posed by the red berets' Mandisa Mashigo.
During the heckling, EFF MPL Christina Mabala then called Mayathula-Khoza a “straatmeid”.
When Speaker Ntombi Mekgwe asked her to withdraw the comment, Mabala and her fellow EFF members refused.
“I’m going to ask you to withdraw the word ‘straatmeid’, there’s no ‘straatmeid’ here. Everybody that’s here is a holding member.”
Mabala was then ordered to leave the house, and after refusing, security was called in to remove her.
EFF MPLs however formed a barrier around her seat.
Mekgwe adjourned proceedings, adding that Mabala has been suspended from attending the next sitting, scheduled for next Tuesday.
