Efforts to extinguish CT fishing trawler fire continue
A fishing trawler holding 100,000 litres of diesel caught alight at the Cape Town harbour last week.
CAPE TOWN - Firefighters are continuing with their efforts to extinguish a blaze on a docked fishing trawler in the Cape Town harbour.
The fire flared up at the weekend preventing crews from accessing the vessel.
The blaze has been raging on the Russian ship since last Tuesday.
The vessel was laden with a thousand litres of diesel, as well as hundreds of thousands of Styrofoam containers.
Harbour Master Captain Vernal Jones says: “The vessel has cooled down substantially and it remains in a stable condition. We also have water that’s been settling towards the back end of the vessel, but it poses no further risk to the vessel at this stage. Our firefighters will attempt to gain access to the vessel to assess it.”
