CAPE TOWN - Mandela Bay Mayor Athol Trollip says a disciplinary hearing will be held following last week’s violent brawl in council.

Two African National Congress councillors have been ordered to report to the Humewood police station following the altercation on Thursday in which a Democratic Alliance councillor was hit over the head with a glass water jug.

The pair are facing assault charges.

Trollip said, “It must be evidently clear to all concerned that the law will take its course for anyone who contravenes the provisions of the law, whether you’re a councillor or an ordinary citizen. An internal disciplinary process will also be followed.”
